Nice to meet you! I’m Lauren.
Wait, what?! Not Camille? You can read here about why my blog actually features my middle name...
I’m the founder of Camille Outside The Box – a blog that focuses on business and blog strategy through actionable guidance and advice. I feature business and blog scaling and strategy content, technology tips, mindset advice and business spotlights for self-starting individuals. I help others get their ideas and business outside of the box and into the world through creative thinking and strategic solutions.
As for me, I”m a proud Oregonian, – but confusingly enough – a recent graduate of Ohio University. I graduated cum laude in May 2019 with a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science & Nutrition. However, after working with businesses and startups throughout my current job, and working with small businesses on Instagram, I knew in my heart that Nutrition wasn’t a fit.
In my day job outside of this blog, I’m a lead integration project manager with a federal network security consulting company outside of Ashburn, Virginia. (I share in this episode with the So Today I Learned podcast, about how I got this job, as well as some uber-helpful branding and blogging tips.)
I’ve been doing remote contract work for two years and have been heavily involved throughout every process in the startup journey from software quality assurance testing and design production, to email lists, blog management, website copy creation, SEO tactics, referral programs, social media management and more. You name it, and it was a task I worked through. Have I done it all? Heck no, but I strongly believe I can steer others in a great direction and help be the voice of reason you need!
Over the last 9 months, I’ve both actively connected and received messages from others seeking help or advice on their business. I LOVE giving advice where I can (and as time permits). I’ve worked with local and out-of-state businesses to help share advice and next steps for them to hone their future strategy.
How does this work with my educational background? How am I in this field?
The interesting note about my Applied Nutrition Bachelor’s degree is that it was highly intertwined with economics, business management and marketing courses. My business development and marketing strength comes from being in a background where I was always actively “selling” the hardest “product” possible: healthy eating. The business and marketing education coupled with my MAJOR LOVE of writing, led me to know there was absolutely no reason not to build my dream business blog. After working with many colleagues and clients to design their websites and enact strategic business decisions, I was itching to make a mark – getting my ideas out of their comfort zone, with outside the box strategies.
My passion is finding the business aspects in the everyday. That’s where my blog comes into play. I help others develop their businesses, blogs and ideas by sharing the business tips that I learned through massive hours I invested in research, partnerships and trial and error fixes in the Information Technology (IT) startup realm.
Besides the serious business work, I love nothing better than iced caramel coffee, kayaking, baking ax throwing, and traveling the world (My favorite spots are Thailand, Hungary and Austria.), I also love onnecting with fellow self-starters online (is that you?) and I’m a major advocate for mental health. (I actually share my story about seeking counseling in 2020 here in the name of self-development. Best decision of my life.)
I’m currently working on a project that I hope to reveal through my blog, but for now it stays secret…
